How we help Abuk: A story of survival
When Abuk arrived at our Nutrition Center in Gordhim, her life was in immediate danger. She weighed only 7 kg, and her arm circumference (MUAC) was 9.6 cm — placing her in the red zone of severe malnutrition. In crisis-stricken South Sudan, her only chance of survival was specialised nutritional therapy.
Thanks to your donations, Abuk received therapeutic food and essential care. Her condition improved quickly — today, she weighs 8.5 kg, and her arm circumference has grown to 12.9 cm, reaching the green zone, which indicates a safe level of nutrition. Your support is saving the lives of children like Abuk.
We have been providing aid in Gordhim for years, and through this work, thousands of children have regained their health.
A centimeter to health and life
The MUAC tape is the essential tool for our staff at the Gordhim Nutrition Center. We place it on a child’s arm – between the shoulder and elbow – to measure circumference and determine their nutritional status:
🔴 Red – severe malnutrition, the child is in a life-threatening state.
🟡 Yellow – moderate malnutrition, immediate intervention is necessary.
🟢 Green – healthy child.
Every child whose arm measurement falls in the yellow or red zone must receive therapeutic food. Unfortunately, the current needs are so massive that our existing supplies are only sufficient for children in the Red Zone.
Help us deliver more therapeutic food to South Sudan today.
