Already facing a severe humanitarian crisis, the situation in South Sudan has become catastrophic due to the influx of refugees fleeing the Sudan conflict across the border.

At the Gordhim Nutrition Center, we are forced to make agonizing choices every single day. Our supply of therapeutic food has been depleted. We have had to halt the treatment of 582 children. Their condition worsens daily, and they are now just a centimeter away from rescue – the distance shown by the measure that indicates severe malnutrition. This is the only place within hundreds of kilometers where these children can receive help. Without your immediate support, they face death.

How we help John: A story of survival

When John arrived at our nutrition center, he was eighteen months old. His arm was so thin that the measurement tape stopped in the red zone, indicating just 7.8 cm—a direct, life-threatening crisis due to starvation. The boy weighed only 3 kg, when he should have weighed at least three times that much.

In crisis-stricken South Sudan, the only chance for John was our Nutrition Center in Gordhim, where your donations allow us to provide therapy for children in such extreme conditions. We administer special therapeutic food, which helps them quickly gain weight and improve their condition. After just one month of therapy, John’s weight nearly doubled, and he began to sit up. We have been providing aid in Gordhim for years, and through this work, thousands of children have regained their health.

A centimeter to health and life

The MUAC tape is the essential tool for our staff at the Gordhim Nutrition Center. We place it on a child’s arm – between the shoulder and elbow – to measure circumference and determine their nutritional status:

🔴 Red – severe malnutrition, the child is in a life-threatening state.
🟡 Yellow – moderate malnutrition, immediate intervention is necessary.
🟢 Green – healthy child.

Every child whose arm measurement falls in the yellow or red zone must receive therapeutic food. Unfortunately, the current needs are so massive that our existing supplies are only sufficient for children in the Red Zone.
