Over 700 kg of aid on its way to Lebanon

A shipment of in-kind humanitarian aid purchased thanks to Polish donors will soon depart for Lebanon. It includes more than 700 kg of supplies that will be flown to Beirut. Mattresses, duvets, blankets, pillows, and other essential items have already left the warehouses of the Polish Center for International Aid.

In recent days, Israel has intensified its bombardment of southern Lebanon. Between May 13 and May 19, there were reportedly 286 airstrikes and bombardments – an average of around 47 attacks per day. Despite the ceasefire, airstrikes and the systematic destruction of villages in southern Lebanon, particularly in border areas, remain part of daily life for residents.

Hard-to-reach areas of southern Lebanon are cut off from humanitarian assistance. People face severe limitations in access to healthcare, food, and safe mobility.

We have been helping in Lebanon for many years, both by developing infrastructure and by providing humanitarian support to a country still shaken by multiple crises. When the latest wave of bombings began, donor support enabled us to immediately assist those most in need.

Our team is on the ground and provides aid every day – we distribute meals and food supplies in the north of the country. To respond quickly and flexibly, we purchase everything possible locally – in this way, we not only provide immediate relief but also directly support Lebanese communities.

700 kg of aid

That is why the Polish Center for International Aid has prepared a humanitarian aid shipment heading to Lebanon. It includes more than 700 kilograms of mattresses, pillows, and duvets for families who have been living for months in collective shelters, schools, or on the streets of Beirut.

These are items that are simply unavailable in Lebanon. That is why organizing transport from Poland was so important. Crucial support came from the Operational Command of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of National Defence, thanks to which a fully loaded aircraft will depart for Lebanon in the coming days.

Humanitarian crisis

More than 1.2 million people have been forced to leave their homes, and over 140,000 are currently staying in nearly 700 collective shelters. However, this represents only a small proportion – just over 10% – of all internally displaced persons. The vast majority remain outside the main support system: we see people sleeping in tents on city streets, in temporarily rented apartments, and in informal shelters. Of the more than 1 million people mentioned, many are fleeing war – but the number of Lebanese affected by its consequences is significantly higher.

We are able to provide this assistance thanks to the support of our donors, and every zloty counts. That is why we encourage you to support the fundraising campaign at pcpm.org.pl/donate.
