[GALLERY] Ongoing training for firefighters in Ethiopia
A Polish-Kenyan team of instructors from the PCPM Foundation has launched a series of basic training courses for firefighters in Arba Minch, Ethiopia. These intensive training days focus on developing firefighting skills, including extinguishing fires not only with water but also using firefighting foam. Participants are also learning how to operate rescue equipment, from fire engine tools and accessories to water and firefighting fittings.
The training additionally covers emergency communication, team management during interventions, and, equally importantly, first aid. Firefighters are also gaining knowledge on how to protect their own safety and well-being while working under high-risk conditions and psychological pressure.
A source of inspiration for the local firefighters has been Caroline, a PCPM instructor from Kenya. She represents the still relatively small number of women serving in the fire service in her country, and her presence is particularly meaningful for the three female firefighters taking part in the training. Years of experience gained through operational service and training activities in Kenya have led to another international training mission, providing additional motivation for the entire team.
All fire brigades in Arba Minch, Dilla, and Sodo have been equipped with personal protective equipment, including firefighting suits, balaclavas, firefighting boots, helmets, and gloves. The training sessions are conducted using equipment purchased in Poland and Ethiopia through funding provided by the Polish Aid programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland.
The project is co-financed from the state budget as part of the Polish development cooperation programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland.
