When Ukrainians are forced to leave home, support matters most.

In Ukraine, cities and villages are shelled every day. Thousands of people are losing their homes, forced to leave their family houses and start their lives over in safer places.

Among those who must evacuate are many people from particularly vulnerable groups -seniors, persons with disabilities, and families with children for whom forced displacement is especially difficult.

Some have lost their homes due to destruction. Others cannot return because of ongoing shelling. For some, return is not an option at all, as their village or town is in occupied territory and it would simply be too dangerous.

Thanks to co-financing from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, under the project “Improving hygiene conditions for vulnerable groups in municipalities of Kharkiv, Odesa, and Mykolaiv oblasts in Ukraine,” the Polish Centre for International Aid (PCPM) Foundation, together with its partners – the Charity Foundation “Viezha” from Odesa and the Charity Foundation “We Are Brothers, We Are Ukrainians” from Kharkiv – is helping families in precisely such difficult situations.

The project aims to assist 6,400 families in Kharkiv, Odesa, and Mykolaiv oblasts. So far, support has reached residents of Olkhovatka and Kurylivka municipalities in Kharkiv oblast, as well as internally displaced persons living in Ananiv and Bereznehuvate municipalities in Odesa and Mykolaiv oblasts.

Families receive kits with personal hygiene products and cleaning supplies – simple items, but essential in everyday life.

For someone who has had to leave home, even basic hygiene articles can be a significant support. Aid is not only about objects; it is also about showing people care, attention, and the chance to maintain dignity in very difficult conditions.
